We’re tackling toy storage ideas today, sharing solutions that encourage fun and minimalism and work in any room of the house, because we all know toys like to travel!
Toy storage can quickly grow out of control. It might start with a neat wicker basket of baby toys, but it soon morphs into primary coloured plastic bucketfulls of toy lucky dip – mixed up jigsaws, left over party bag bits, lego always lego, and who knows what else caught their eye – kitchen utensils always seem to make their way into ours.
It’s easy to invest in loud and plastic child friendly storage units only for kids to outgrow them. Plus, speaking from experience, the more room you give them for storage the more they fill, and the quicker they forget what they have when it is at the bottom of a big box tidied away. Less is definitely more, when it comes to toys and to storage – how much of your life so you want to spend sorting toys?!
And wouldn’t it be great if it looked stylish too? Here are some great ideas which don’t scream toys, so they can fit in anywhere in the house, plus they’re on the minimalist size too. And better still, for anyone who ever went to sea in the washing basket, some of them can even become part of the game.
These baskets are small enough for little ones to move about, with handy handles, and shallow enough not to lose things at the bottom.
Chests stimulate the imagination as well as the desire to store. I can see these being used for precious treasures, plus they look like a feature when stacked. Not as accessible as trays or drawers however, but when things are fun to use, they get used.
Keeping different paper and card easy to access is easy with little drawer units.

A few more tips…
If you dont have shed or garage try a toy basket by the back door, or a weatherproof trunk of outdoor toys so that the garden doesn’t get strewn with forgotten treasures.
Have large folder per child or even a filing cabinet drawer, for art projects and things to keep like school books and holiday scrapbooks. Children will take responsibility sooner than you think for filling things away themselves.
Use over the door shoe pocket holders inside cupboards, to keep art supplies, toy figures, gloves and hats tidy.
