An organised, ordered space that aids sleep; a bedroom should be your retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Look at the room objectively and identify where the ‘dead’ areas of space are. If you redesigning the room, try and plan in storage right from the start. Look Skywards
We generally tend not to notice things that are above our eyeline, but for storage purposes try looking up. If you have higher ceilings look at creating storage space on the tops of cupboards and wardbrobes. Buy attractive boxes from places like IKEA and the DIY stores and use them for items you don’t need access to very often. It’s a great place to store out of season duvets and spare pillows for example. You may need a pair of steps to get to them, but as you won’t need to do it very often it shouldn’t cause too many problems.
Display Jewellery
Make a statement with your jewellery even when it’s not being worn, and create gorgeous storage solutions in the bedroom. I love this full lenght mirror that opens up to reveal the most amazing storage for necklaces and bracelets.
Pretty boxes
There are so many types of boxes available that you really can find anything you like to compliment the look of your room. And if you can’t then think about covering different size boxes in favourite wrapping paper or fabric. Find round, square or oblong and stack them in cupboards, on shelves and on the floor. You can never have too many!
Upcycling for under bed storage
Utilise the space you can’t always see and think about the room you have under the bed. Again, be creative and create drawers on wheels to aid easy access. Look at these beautiful vintage suitcases that have been reused and turned into the most gorgeous storage for sheets, towels and clothes.
Ottoman Beds
If you’ve decided to splash out on a new bed really take the time to look at the great idea of a bed where the ‘lid’ lifts to reveal a large area of storage in the base. Ottoman beds frames are becoming more and more popular and can be fabulous storage for bedding and towels.
Labelling
Never misplace your socks, cds or toiletries again. Make sure all your storage boxes are well labelled. Create a system where the labels and text all look the same, try some chalkboard labels, or maybe create your own on the pc.
Shoe storage
There are lots of lovely ways to store your shoes, from custom made sliding shoe racks to overdoor hangers and see through shoe boxes. Organising your shoes will also save you lots of stress and time in the mornings. Just make sure you stay organised and put them away at the end of each day!
Clever headboards
Another area where we have lots of ‘dead’ space. The headboard to our bed can hide a multitude of sins. If you can’t find the right size or storage options you need then consider having a carpenter make a bespoke one. Ideal for books, this is one space that many of us don’t think of utilising.
I hope you’ve enjoyed some of these ideas and tips for creating extra storage in your bedroom.
