A Room of One’s Own is an essay by Virginia Woolf written back in 1929 . It is a feminist text which argues for a space for women writers within a literary tradition dominated by men.

Well I am arguing for a literal space to write within a home full of toys and guitars!

Our house is is rather full to the brim. I think to gain a writing space I will have to take to the garden. My she shed/writing shed really would be a dream come true. I just love to write and after years of working in a tiny corner of the kitchen, space to be creative would be blissful.

I have been having a little look on Pinterest (okay that is a lie, who has a little look on Pinterest!!) Ahem. After a few hours browsing I found my writing shed inspiration. Well actually I should say inspirations as there are so many beautiful writing shed ideas!

I think my favourite sheds are wooden and rustic looking with big windows from Summit Point Roofing.

I do rather like summerhouse with doors that open right up (summerhouse from Tiger Sheds)

I would probably paint it dove grey or a powder blue.

I would have in my shed a collection of things I needed to write; a desk and chair, paper, books, flowers, a lamp and a throw for chilly mornings. It is the space to call my own I would appreciate the most.

My writing shed

I would paint the walls white and have large windows out onto a garden full of flowers. My accessories would be gold, grey and pale blue, calming, neutral and comforting without being overpowering. I would make room for books and flowers of course but light and airy and simple would be what I wished for most.

I would have a rug, pots of lavender to fragrance my shed and of course a comfy chair to sit and dream in…

A place and a space to call my very own.

The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can.
