How to have a stress free house move with kids is a bit of an ambitious title I realise. Putting stress free and kids in the same sentence feels a bit ambitious in itself!

Moving house is up there with one of the most challenging things you can do as a family and it can bring about many anxieties for children. Losing their home and possibly school friends and neighbourhood too can lead to lots of feelings of insecurity and fear of the unknown. On top of this they have angst ridden, busy, stressed out parents to contend with. No one knows where anything is for a while and nothing is settled.

Most children thrive in security and routine and with familiarity . In addition to that calm parents provide them with reassurance and comfort. Moving house throws all these elements out the window. So how can we help them?

Personally I think lots of cuddles and making it into an exciting adventure will also really help, your attitude will really rub off on them. They don’t need to see your stress.

• Tour the new home It really helps if the child has had a tour of their new home and feels enthusiastic about the move and fully aware of what the new home will be like.

• Unpack their rooms first I think this is a great idea and will help them settle more quickly with their familiar items around them.

• Make them feel at home ask their opinions on how they want their room decorating and what will help them settle.
