How to Get a Good Night’s Sleep

How to Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Fighting to get a good night’s sleep? Wondering how on earth you’re going to make it through the day on the broken night you’ve just had? Oh gosh, I’ve been there, and completely understand that feeling. Not getting a decent night’s sleep can seriously affect your health, particularly if it’s a prolonged issue, so doing what you can to ensure it doesn’t happen is essential.

There are lots of things you can do to reduce wakefulness in the night, and many ways to ensure you get a good night’s sleep.

There are a lot of ways to ensure you get a good night's sleep and these tips and ideas are all around making sure your bedroom is set up in the best way. Click through to find out which one could help you.

Turn Off the Tech:

I’m having an ongoing struggle with my tween daughter currently who insists on using her phone or iPod right up until bedtime. She actually has issues sleeping (and has had them for many years) so we both know this isn’t good for her so I’m trying to convince her to turn off the tech. We all know the bright lights from tech devices stimulate the brain and prevent the release of melatonin so it’s really in your best interest to read a good book instead.

Keep Cool:

This is a biggie for lots of people. Ensuring you keep at a steady temperature during the night will mean a greater chance of sleeping well. Keep the room ventilated and change the duvet to a tog rating suitable for the current season. Similarly if you get chilly add a blanket for extra warmth.

Sleep Comfort:

So again we all know we need a good mattress so we are well supported and comfortable during the night. The trouble I have is being overwhelmed by all the options and choices and not knowing which one is best for me. So when companies like Sloane and Sons, with 25 years of experience, put together a simple selection of luxury and quality mattresses, I am completely drawn in. It can be quite an investment and you want to know you’re going to get it right. The last one I bought was probably too firm and is causing all kinds of back troubles so I know only too well how important it is.

Blackout Blinds

It’s common to associate sleeping issues with not being able to get to sleep, but many people suffer with waking too early as well. One of the big things you can do in your bedroom at the windows is to use some blackout blinds. For me they’re an essential part of the room and I really couldn’t cope without them. My Luxaflex blinds are still looking amazing and they keep the room beautifully dark even in the height of the summer sun.

Lumie lights

So you’ve slept well all night and now it’s time to rise and shine and get on with your day. The whole process can be ruined by a screeching alarm pulling you from your slumber. I am a big fan of a Lumie light which completely alters the way you wake, increasing the value of your good night’s sleep, and ensuring you have an energy filled, productive day. The alarms slowly wake you with a growing light, much like a sunrise, bringing you out of your sleep in a natural and calm way. By naturally reducing your melatonin levels you wake up feeling refreshed, being able to make the most of your restful night.

Whilst I realise there are lots of reasons why someone might not be sleeping and this list is by no means exhaustive, it should give you some ideas of how you can alter your routine and bedroom to increase your chances of a good night’s sleep.
