7 ways to create a Spring Mood at Home

7 ways to create a Spring Mood at Home

As I type this I am sitting in the playroom, my desk plonked in the the middle of the room, a bit like this picture, but instead of being surrounded by space and calming pastels, I am surrounded by boxes and junk. I’ve decamped here while my office is being redecorated, you can see the exciting plans here. I do at least have a gorgeous view of the garden, where the birds are busy feeding on the food we put out and the daffodils are blowing in the breeze, which is making me think about how to create a spring mood at home, and the kind of colours I might use for my office. Hello Spring!

I was chatting this week to Elaine at A Hint of White, about colour and mood, she has been reading up about how to use colour to make our homes happier – my big thing. I am now hesitating over what colour to paint my office – I had some greyish paint left over from another project – after Elaine told me grey can create a lack of confidence and depressed mood, not what you want in an office.

But if I offset it with some bright yellow, like the colour of the daffodils in my garden, that could keep the mood high. But, more interestingly, Elaine was also telling me that blues and greens can improve efficiency and focus. When I put a mood board together last year using the Pantone colours I was struck by how good the blue immediately made me feel.

So I was also rather taken by the items Wayfair have pulled together for their Hello Spring mood board and I am off for a blue and purple rummage once more. I’m also going to root out my favourite items I already have at home, to see what kind of colour scheme emerges.

7 ways to bring Spring into your home

7 ways to bring spring into your home
Bring in the blooms, daffodils are wonderfully cheap, a good excuse to treat yourself to some flowers here and there.

  1. Spring Clean – might sound boring but a good declutter and clean can banish anything that is still lurking from the Winter months. make it a party, get the whole house involved and reward yourselves too.
  2. We stayed in a beautiful cottage by the sea last month, where there seemed to be a sea grass or wicker basket in the right place for absolutely everything. It can be so tempting to buy storage before you declutter, but it often results in the wrong thing or baskets that just float about. Declutter, then invest in exactly the right storage.
  3. Throws and Cushions – I find life is far too short for me to have cushions for every season, but I do like to swap the throws around a bit or quickly rearrange a few things on the shelves and mantelpieces, now is the time for some more spring like colours.
  4. A new doormat is a lovely way to welcome a new season and let the world know you are ready for it, I love this bold ‘Hello You Wonderful People!’ and a circle is a great format
  5. I’ve seen the shutter mirrors above used to great effect over sideboard to create a dresser look. But to the traveller in me, they are a dreamy window into summer holidays, and at £36.99 a really affordable way of creating a playful window from Spring to Summer.
  6. Wake up the garden. Mowing the lawn and weeding suddenly opened up a whole new world again in the garden. Don’t put it off! The kids are busy playing and I am loving my cup of tea on the swing seat and pottering in my breaks from work.
