Revamping Your Kid’s Bedrooms on a Budget

Kids love their bedrooms. It is a space in which they can be themselves, and do more or less, what they want. They like to have the option to relax away from the rest of the family, to play video games, watch their favourite programmes, and speak to their friends. Many also do their homework in their bedrooms, so for most kids it is the most important room in the house, which is why they like you to revamp it every few years.

This can be tricky when you are living on a tight budget, which is why we have put together this post. Below we outline some simple ways to bring your children’s bedrooms bang up to date, without breaking the bank.

New bedding

Updating your child’s bedding sets is a quick and relatively cheap way to change the look and feel of their bedroom. Swapping out your child’s cartoon character based quilt cover for a crisp new one in the latest chic design is also a way to help them to feel more grown up. If you wait for the Boxing Day sales, or New Year sales, you can buy a high end set at the price you would normally pay for a flimsy bedding set. Buying good quality bedding is always a good investment. It looks more luxurious, and it can also last a few years as it is less prone to tearing and getting holes.

A lick of paint

Simply repainting the walls will make a huge difference to the overall look of the room. Paint is far cheaper than wallpaper, and it only takes a few hours to paint an average sized bedroom. Whereas, re-papering a room can easily swallow up an entire morning.

If your kids are old enough, you can rope them in and let them do some of the painting. They will enjoy doing that it, and because they have been involved in putting their new room together will be more likely to want to look after it.

Should your children not want plain walls, consider investing in some decals. You can get whole wall stickers that only take an hour or so for two people to put up, so it is a very quick way to give a room a startling new look.

You do not have to buy new furniture

New bedroom furniture is expensive, so a much better approach is to make better use of the space that you have. For example, buying some plastic storage containers, so they can be stacked on top of each other in a wardrobe means you can fit more into the same space. They can also be slid under the bed to utilise what would otherwise be dead space.

Repainting what you already have, to bring it up to date, is far cheaper than buying new bedroom furniture. Again, this is something you can get the kids involved in doing. By working together, you can easily transform a room in one weekend.
