Texture is a significant feature of interior design trends in 2017.
Adding textures gives layers and depth to a design scheme and allows a home to be experienced from a tactile as well as visual perspective, making it a richer experience. Lets have a look at some of the key design trends this year and the textures they bring with them.
Art Deco
1920’s glamour is everywhere in interiors in 2017. Think the Great Gatsby: shiny reflective surfaces, plush velvet cushions, glossy marbles, brass lamps all luxe textures to give an edge of sophistication to our homes.
Bohemia
Bohemia is a big trend this year and fabric is a lovely way for this trend to be expressed. Artisan skills are highly valued right now too and so we will be seeing hand painted wall paper, embroidered cloths, covered footstools and florals, geometric patterns and ethnic styling.
Sustainability
Sustainability remains as a huge design trend in 2017 and brings with it some absolutely beautiful natural textures. Wood is the most obvious of these and the more textured the better but think faux fur throws, jute rugs and rattan furniture too.
New Nordic
Scandi styling remains popular this year but with a softer look and a move away from just white. Muted and soft hues and natural textures will be key to this trend and oh they do make for such a cosy home!
As you can see there are so many lovely textures in this years design trends and there is just so much variety that there is absolutely sure to be something that fits your taste.
Personally I love nothing more than a snuggly faux fur throw and some squashy velvet cushions, so bring on the texture I say!
Let’s keep it cosy.
