When it comes to designing a space, lighting is one of those essential details that should never be overlooked. I have a bit of a fascination with this design element. A year ago while browsing my favorite shop on Long Island, I found this beautiful rewired vintage schoolhouse pendant. I had no idea where I would put it, as we already had all of our permanent lighting in place, but I just knew it would be perfect somewhere. My family room was always in need of more illumination, so I hung it over our desk area and wouldn't you know it, that it is the first thing people see & ask about as they walk in.
A great light fixture can set a mood, create conversation, and give that aesthetic you are looking for. Repurposing something old and worn into lighting is an affordable way to express your signature style and achieve a custom look in your home. Here are some of my favorite ideas. Oceanside Inspiration
A clam basket repurposed as a farmhouse pendant light hangs above this kitchen island. Its rustic patina blends seamlessly with natural wood ceiling beams and oil-rubbed bronze hardware.
Texture Update
If you fall in love with a fixture, don't worry if it doesn't work perfectly. Rewiring an old fixture with a beautiful patina is much simpler than finding a substitute. The aged texture of this chandelier, for example, gives a warmth to this bright & cheerful kitchen.
Room for Pie
Repurpose and make a statement. A trio of pie plates have been transformed into a visual masterpiece. This modern and updated kitchen has blended new with old seamlessly. And, no doubt, such an unusual fixture generates fun conversation.

Vintage Revival
Original vintage pendants are an obvious choice for a light fixture. Whether your collection stands alone, or the pendants have been redesigned together for one unified piece, this one of a kind DIY gives an authentic feel. For a rustic look, attach the lights with an aged piece of reclaimed wood.
Brass Bowl
Transforming a basic brass bowl into a kitchen pendant is a brilliant idea. All of the textures and tones work seamlessly in this kitchen to give a unique and one of a kind look that is classic and stylish. If brass isn't your style, opt for another metal, such as gold, silver, or rose gold.
Wired Up
Repurposing materials can also yield a great result. Who would have thought wire could look so chic? Combining this texture with the coolness of the blue walls and white table gives a true farmhouse aesthetic.
