I often think this is one of the most difficult rooms in the house to decorate and the most costly, but it is possible to create a beautiful bathroom on a budget if you really put in some research and planning.
There are certain elements that need consideration though so I thought I’d put together some of my own ideas and tips to help you along the way with your project.
Budget Bathroom Suites:
Ok so this is where you could really spend a lot of money but honestly, you don’t have to. If funds are limited this is one way you can really save some money. Most people these days want a white suite and there are lots of places to find simple baths, sinks and toilets and reasonable price. My one tip here is to look online. Research your stores, look at reviews and see what kinds of deals they have. A good place to start is somewhere like Bathroom Takeaway with their great selection of bathroom suites.
Tiles and Paint:
So this is another where you can seriously spend some money if you want to, particularly in the area of tiles. How do you reduce this cost? Well you don’t have to tile the whole room. Of course some areas will need tiles like around the bath and shower and behind the sink, but if you want to save some cash don’t go for anything too over the top. There are still some great designs at affordable prices. I’ve always loved Topps Tiles for stylish on-trend tiles that don’t cost a fortune.
Storage:
Storage for bathrooms has changed a lot in the last couple of years with sink cabinets and drawers becoming much more common and on-trend. They can push up the cost a little, particularly as you’ll want a decent one that works and doesn’t rot! They are great for keeping all of your practical bits out of sight, and if you want to keep the walls sleek there’s less need for a bathroom cabinet then too.
Flooring:
My top tips for budget busting flooring in any bathroom is to go for vinyl. If you happen to be a child of the 70’s this idea might fill you with horror, but I guarantee it has come a long way in recent years. My parents recently laid some lovely vinyl in their bathroom, and there loads of great styles and designs to choose from. It’s hard-wearing, warm and soft underfoot and great for a wet space. Check out shops like Harvey Maria for more luxury options.
Showers:
Depending on the location of your bathroom and the plumbing you’ll need to decide what kind of shower you will have in your bathroom. Will it be a mains fed electric shower or will it run from the taps as a mixer shower? Whichever you go for, again there is a great range of prices and styles available. When doing up my own bathroom last year this was one area I chose to indulge in slightly. A good quality, great looking shower was really important to us so this is where we spent some extra money. Sometimes it pays to go for something a little better than the budget model.
And that’s my top takeaway tip: Mix it up. Look at your budget and decide which areas you might like to splash some cash. Then find ways to save a bit on other elements. For me it was a more reasonable loo and tiles so we could splash out a bit on a nice shower door and shower unit.
What would you spend your money on in creating your beautiful bathroom on a budget?
