Create a Home That’s Made to Last

Do you often buy pieces for your home knowing that you will probably replace it in 6 months or next year sometime? Do you notice that a cheaper price means you don’t give an item as much thought as something more expensive? Well I’ve discovered a great concept from a company called Made to Last.

Made to Last approached me to look at their website and pieces and understand what drives them as a brand. If brands want to sell a higher priced piece, what convinces you that its good value and worth buying? Well Made to Last believe it’s all about longevity and a guarantee. If they, and their suppliers will guarantee a product for many years, it gives us as a consumer a different view on what we’re buying and spending. Just one look at their website and you’ll understand what I mean.

As the nights are drawing in fast now, and the clocks will change here in the UK in a few weeks’ time, home lighting is all important and so I’ve taken a look at some of my favourite pieces from the Made to Last lighting range.

Mullan Monaco Floor Lamp:

Well just look at this beautiful floor lamp. Sturdy and solid, made from brass and steel with a scissor adjustable stem. Now this retails at £600 so it’s not cheap but it comes with a 25 year guarantee! That’s right, a full 25 years. A real investment piece perhaps, but you know it’s going to last. Both the manufacturer and the supplier have guaranteed it.

Muscar Sky Blue Pendant Light:

You know how I love something cool and contemporary, and so this fluffy Muscar light is perfect for me, and I just had to include it in my wishlist. This one has a 2 year guarantee and sells for £78. Great as a simple pendant, or hang in a group for more impact. Also available in different lead colours.

Mullan Berlin Vintage Copper Pendant:

An antique style pendant lamp that ticks lots of trend boxes. Industrial – check. Metallics – check. Lighting statement – check. Selling for £142 it has a guarantee of 25 years. Wow. Doesn’t it change your perception of the product to know that it will last that long? And the manufacturer knows this and is willing to put the guarantee stamp behind it. I think this is a great way to add something different to how we perceive our home interior purchases.

Santa Clara Industrial Table Lamp:

Another 25 year guaranteed product, this time costing £158. This is a beautiful example of an industrial style table lamp, also great for an office desk for you or your children. My main love for this piece has to be the shiny insert on the lamp head which is just enough to catch your attention and give this lamp a little edge over something less lovely.

Mullan Rehau Industrial Wall Light:

I’m finishing my wishlist with this industrial style wall light, because, well just because. If antique copper and the industrial vibe is your thing, then this one is perfect. Retailing for £112 and again with a 25 year guarantee, just add a beautiful bulb and your work is complete.

And did I mention that all these product are made in the UK? No, well there you go, they really are. No imports. Just well made, made to last British products.
