Acacia Hardwood Floors From GoHaus

Acacia Hardwood Floors From GoHaus

There are a number of wood species used to make solid and engineered wood flooring planks. From maple to oak to birch and many more, acacia is rising in the ranks as a species of choice among people doing new floor installations. There are several benefits to adding acacia wood flooring to your home. First, acacia wood floors, as with any wood floor, increase a home’s value. Another benefit is that wood flooring, whether acacia or otherwise, reduces the build up of dust and germs often associated with carpet flooring.

Before we dive further into acacia wood flooring, let’s step back and look at the tree itself. The acacia genus once comprised of 1,300 different species and in recent years has been reclassified and divided into five different genera. The acacia tree is known for its flat treetops and prevalence in arid to semi-arid regions. Acacias are also known as slow growth trees. Because of its slow growth, acacia wood is very hard and dense, creating a more durable floor for homeowners. The Janka hardness rating scale, which measures the resistance different hardwoods are to denting, rates acacia at 2400 making acacia wood floors a top choice if durability is an important factor in your hardwood selection.

When looking into an acacia floor, we recommend looking at the difference between solid planks versus engineered planks. While both are great choices, engineered planks are less prone to shrinking and expanding because of the cross-ply construction of the layered plywood core. Generally speaking, engineered planks are also more cost-effective than solid hardwood planks.

Acacia wood flooring is also popular for its swirling grain pattern and rich gold-brown color. It’s important to keep in mind that because of the smaller size of the tree, acacia wood planks tend to be smaller as well. For example, our acacia engineered wood is 5” wide with lengths ranging from 15-47”. So if the extra long and extra wide planks are something you’re seeking, this may not be the best choice.
