A Living Room Spring Makeover

Now that it’s been nearly 2 years since we last decorated our living room, I’m restless and ready for a change. I’ve managed to update the curtains a few times to suppress my urges but now I’m on a mission to give our living room a spring makeover. There are some cute and quirky gift shops near me and I’ve been window shop lusting for a while now but first things first, I needed to create a space where I could put all the lovely accessories I NEED, not to be confused with want, I’ve gone past that, I’ve moved on to needing them. We’ve got rid of our media cabinet that graced the corner of the room, along with a lifetime of cd’s. It took quite a leap of faith to part with them but as everything we need is stored on the laptop, we find we never use the cd player. I won’t tell you how little money we got for selling them, all I can say is it just about bought us a Chinese takeaway. Criminal I know, but they were just gathering dust. In the space this created, we installed chunky wooden floating shelves that complimented the mantle piece, giving us much-needed space to store wood for the log burner. All that was left was to find the right accessories for the shelves. I’m all about the greys at the moment so began by putting together a mood board on Pinterest. (my grey love is nothing to do with that book, I promise, I’ve never read it and never intend to.)

I’m also a little bit in love with some of the Next home accessories so am going to combine my local finds with a few high street ones like this.

When I decorate, I try to stick to the 3 colour rule; one main colour and 2 accent colours. That way when I get bored I can update the room by just switching one colour which tends to pacify my need for a complete over haul. So with this scheme I’ve chosen yellow as my reserve colour which I would probably swap for the teal. It’s also a great spring colour which can then be replaced in the autumn with the teal again.

Bringing yellow in as an accent vcooour into a neutral colour scheme helps refresh your home for spring.

My plan is to try to keep swapping between these shades through the season changes, unless there’s something else that catches my eye. Which is highly likely!
