5 Travel Inspired Interior Themes

5 Travel Inspired Interior Themes

From small pieces of tableware brought back as souvenirs, to whole rooms full of inspiration ready to be shipped home, open your mind to bringing home new home ideas for your place when you travel. Here are five of our favourite travel inspired interior themes:

Swedish

Often when we travel we don’t get a full glimpse inside the real homes of people who live there. That’s where interior shops when travelling can be really inspiring. I love the look of this interior design shop, in Gothenburg, called Artlleriet Studio. The wooden floors and cabinets create a really natural feel, central to Scandinavian design principles. Cosy armchairs in calming green, match the plants and combine to bring the outdoors in. When it comes to work the space is multipurpose, free and functional with a sense of colour and fun too. Favourite items and personality shine through in display and wall hangings.

New York

Epitomised in so many TV shows and films, many of us have clear images of New York apartments as reference points. There are millions to choose from, but somehow light bright airy spaces with well loved leather armchairs or recliners spring to mind every time. I’m loving the turquoise vintage fan and the gold mirror. Plus the piano says party house to me, a place to gather, or to watch the city go by from the window.

Moroccan

Our Moroccan themed den is one of my favourite rooms in the house. I’ve never been to Morocco but it was easy to pick up everything I needed using a mix of Wayfair and charity shops. Lanterns, geometric shapes, baskets, lots of cushions. Rich colours and golf patterns inspired by desert and seas. So reds, burnt oranges and deep turquoise blues with plenty of metallic and glimmers of coloured glass to create a magical ambience. This is an easy but dramatic look to achieve on a budget. Tiles really make the look, but could be inlaid in a fireplace or side table, or hinted at in a patterned rug.

I love this image of a Riad, a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an interior garden or courtyard, Morocco.

British

I love staying in cottages in the UK, they always provide me with inspiration. Log fires, armchairs, throws and old paperbacks, table lamps, board games, old wooden kitchen tables to gather round. There’s a warmth and cosiness, and an old fashioned unevenness about old cottages in the UK that feels so very homely.

Mediterranean

Bright and bold, the Mediterranean make me think of playful citrus colours, tangerines and limes played out against green trees, bright whites and blue skies. How lovely to bring that holiday feel home, with colours to make you feel sunshiney and lift your mood. Here country rustic meets city bold and contemporary, with a minimalist look that reflects that uncluttered living out of a suitcase holiday feel – I love it.
